BARSTOW - Soroptimist International of the Barstow Area has awarded the 2002 Violet Richardson Award to Bethany Poole, a Barstow High School student.

Poole received the award at the eighth annual Women in History luncheon at the Idle Spurs Restaurant.

The Violet Richardson Award is given to a girl between 14 and 17 years old for volunteer action.

Poole volunteers her time in a variety of ways.

She is a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and participates in the Barstow Hospital Volunteen program where she assists in the radiology department.

Poole is now eligible for one of 29 $1,000 awards. One finalist will be chosen from among the 29 for an additional award.
