Note The adult signing the Talent Application has agreed to review these rules with the Rainbow Girls participating in the talent competition. Understanding the rules will help you to develop the finest act possible and will prevent disappointments or misunderstandings. We wish you luck and much assembly support as you prepare for Grand Assembly 2001.

  SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION
A. Submit application to Mrs. Sara Lee Martin, Supreme Deputy, no later than January 31, 2001 (may be postmarked January 31, 2001)
B. Application must be complete or it will be returned.
C. A copy of the words of any song used must be attached to the application (including the words on a background tape). PLEASE DON'T FORGET THIS RULE.
D. Who may apply?
1. The combined assemblies of a district may enter as a group.
2. No other group act (two or more) from that district may enter.
3. A solo act from an assembly within the same district may also enter.
4. If any assembly with that district does not take part in the district group then that assembly may enter in any form.
5. No two districts may combine.
6. One entry per assembly, except as stated above. If an assembly has more than one act that wishes to perform, it is up to the assembly to select the entry. If the assembly cannot decide, neither act will perform.

  PREPARATION
A. Performance may not be less than 2 minutes, 30 seconds nor more than 4 minutes. This is very important!!! Time your acts carefully as they will be timed at Grand Assembly.
B. If the performance is less than 2 minutes 30 seconds, the act will be disqualified. If the performance is more than 4 minutes, points will be taken off (2 points per 10 second period).
C. Timing of the performance commences with the first words or notes of the music. Timing of precision performers, dancers and comedy groups begins form the first movement after the initial set-up (performers in place) and continues through the last note of music or final movement. Time spent coming on the floor or exiting off the floor is not counted unless it is a definite part of the act.
D. Cassette tapes and CD's may be used. If using a cassette, bring two tapes properly marked including the assembly's name. If using a CD, bring one tape as a backup. Please include only the music which you are using for the performance on the cassette.

  GENERAL RULES
A. Good taste must be exercised in all materials presented. WATCH THE WORDS TO THE SONGS AND THE LOOK OF THE COSTUMES (not too tight or too low cut)!
B. All performers, including accompanists, must be active Rainbow Girls in good standing (with current dues receipts).
C. All performers are expected to dress in costume and participate in the Talent Parade (whether or not they go on to the semi-finals or finals). At the Talent Parade, the assemblies will be honored with a participation trophy and additional trophies will be awarded to the top acts in the various categories.
D. Props, step units, special effects are the sole responsibility of each assembly to set up prior to and remove subsequent to the performance. Adults may help with this function since it is not during the performance.
E. No adults in any capacity permitted on the floor during the performance.
F. No special lighting may be used.
G. A soloist who chooses to have ANY background singers or chorus (either live or as part of the recorded accompaniment) will enter as a "Vocal Group" category and will not be eligible for the Lois Cook Trophy. Only those competing in the "Vocal Solo" category (soloist with live or taped non-vocal accompaniment) will qualify for the Lois Cook Trophy.
H. Singers cannot sing along with a recording artist's voice ( for example: singing along with Bette Midler or Whitney Houston, etc.)

The current sweepstakes winning assembly may enter the talent competition the following year, but they must enter a different category. (NOTE: Sweepstakes winning dancers may not enter in the precision category and sweepstakes winning precision teams may not enter in the dance category the following year - the categories are too similar.

  SUGGESTIONS
A. Choose a representative (girl, adult leader, team captain) who will be responsible all throughout the preparation months to organize the planning, practices, costumes, and participation of the girls. At Grand Assembly, the representative should take care to see that the quality of the performance is maintained in the semi-finals and finals (the girls get their proper rest, eat, etc.)
B. Please fill in all the information about the assembly on the application very carefully. Make sure that all addresses and telephone numbers are readable and correct just in case it is necessary to contact the assembly regarding the application or performance.
C. Enter the name of the soloist on the application. If a group, select an especially "catchy" name for the group.
D. Be sure that the recorded music that you bring to Grand Assembly is high quality. It is recommended that you purchase new tapes for your recording. Please record only the music on the cassettes tapes that is going to be used in the performance.
E. It is the responsibility of the assembly in general and the Mother Advisor in particular to monitor the material to be presented. It must be in good taste.
F. For group performances, it is good to remember that rehearsals, lots of them, pay off. Groups who are committed to a dedicated rehearsal schedule, are the ones who are chosen for the semi-finals and the finals and walk off with trophies. The by-product is a wonderful feeling of camaraderie and pulling together for the assembly. Work hard, but smile and have fun!

  SPECIAL NOTE
Our Grand Assembly Talent Competition has come a long way since its inception. We have been able to present what we feel is the best entertainment from our Rainbow Girls. The purpose of this contest is to give the girls an incentive to work and play together, furthering friendships and encouraging good sportsmanship!

We hope to be able to continue this talent for many years to come, so please send in your forms with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.

Please notify Mrs. Miholick of any withdrawals by March 28, 2001

See your Mother Advisor for application form and remember the deadline.
