Grand Assembly 1999 Competitions - Grand Choir

Grand Assembly Choir Information for 1999

A tryout for Grand Choir must be held in front of the entire assembly if you have girls interested and eligible. A vote will be taken at that time. Last year's girl is not eligible unless there is absolutely no other girl who qualifies. If you do not wish to select a girl or have no qualified girl, please return the form and mark across it: "Assembly voted not to send a girl for Grand Choir" and sign assembly name on the form.

We need girls who can sing, have had some musical experience and are willing to abide by the rules. "Quality instead of quantity" is our desire. We will not fill voids by using more than one girl from an assembly. Please don't send a girl just because you want to give her an honor. There is no time to "teach" a girl to sing, and when we have a girl who can't carry a tune, it throws those around her off-key!

Qualifications and eligibility for a Grand Choir Member:

1. Age 13 years or older but not older than 21 at time of Grand Assembly
2. Office Must have held at least one office in the assembly which is electing her. (It is recommended that the girl has attended at least one Grand Assembly.)
3. Dress Must be willing to make a Grand Choir formal. A pattern has been selected and when you send in the name of your girl, the Grand Choir Director will send you the information. We would like to keep the Grand Choir dresses a secret -- only choir members and Mother Advisor are to know so that the dresses will be a surprise at Grand Assembly. Dresses require a hoop. The girl will need white shoes, nylons, bra and pantaloons. Hair should be worn either up or cut short. Hair must be off the shoulder.
4. Music Music will be sent to the girl from the Grand Choir Director. Cost will be minimal.
5. Ability As stated above, girls should have some voice experience such as choral member, church choir or soloist. She must be good enough to learn most of the music on her own. This is extremely important.
6. Rehearsals Each girl must attend at least one practice prior to the Grand Assembly practice. Anyone unwilling to do so, please do not try out. Information on rehearsals throughout the state (time, places, dates, etc.) is enclosed. Please see that your girl gets to at least one rehearsal.
7. Personality Grand Choir member must be able to take care of themselves, be dependable, willing to take fast direction at the one big Grand Assembly rehearsal, and be prepared to attend all sessions of Grand Assembly. (Illness will be the only excuse.) They must be able to sit for a long time with head up, feet flat on the floor, no dozing, chewing gum, giggling, talking or running in and out.

The name of your Grand Choir girl must be in the hands of the Grand Choir Director no later than December 1, 1998. We must order the material at that time. Once the material order is placed, that is all we can get and there are no returns.
