![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dear Rainbow Sisters
and Friends,
Last Tuesday, September 11, 2001 our country was attacked. For the last week I have watched, read and lived the horror that descended onto our country. But what a blessing it is to see so many people united together at this horrific time in our nation's history. It is apparent that these terrorists misread the American people. Our country will get through this. Let not this event tear us apart but bring us together more than ever before. As Rainbow Girls and friends of Rainbow Girls, there is much we can do. First show that you are proud to be an American. Display your American flag proudly. Display one on your home, in your yard, on your car, at school or at your job. Let the world know that we do not hide behind this flag, but hold it high and proud. Remember to stand and salute when Old Glory passes. Sing our national anthem loudly with pride. As I've said, our nation still stands strong and there is much we can do as citizens. Your assembly can volunteer hours of service in many ways. You can donate blood (if you are under 17, you need your parents permission). You can write letters or send cards to people who are serving our country. Hold a fundraiser and donate the money to Red Cross or a designated relief fund for this disaster. Make cookies for the local recruiters office (they are working long hours now). Also you can visit the local VA hospital and visit those who have already served for our great country. Ask the girls from your assembly for suggestions and ideas how you can make a difference. September 17th is the birthday of the constitution of the United States. It will be 224 years old on that day. Wear red, white and blue on this day and tell your family and friends that you are celebrating this birthday. To quote Mr. Collins, Worshipful Master of Norwalk Lodge (also our Jr. Past Rainbow Dad), "Liberty lives in the hearts of the people. If it dies there, no courts, no laws, no constitution can possibly save it. We should be ever vigilant. It is not only our responsibility, but also our duty." God Bless America and let freedom ring!
